Active rest in Kamchatka

You will turn out on the edge of Russia, where volcanoes reach the sky, and geysers throw out the boiling fountains from the ground. You will visit the unique places of Kamchatka — the active Avachinsky and Mutnovsky volcanoes and the famous Geysers valley.

 

You will climb the volcanoes and see the smoking fumaroles and mountain lakes, pass through the frozen lava flows and slag fields. During a boat trip along the Avacha Bay you will admire the views of the Pacific ocean and the largest sea bird rookeries in Kamchatka. Rafting down the Bystraya river, you will enjoy the marvelous wild nature of Kamchatka.

 

The tour is guaranteed to be organized on all announced dates. It is possible to join only for a part of the tour with an individual program.

Itinerary

The journey begins with a meeting at the airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which you must travel to on your own. We can help with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, leave a comment on the application.

Day 1 Arrival to Kamchatka

After meeting at the airport you will move to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where you will accomodate in the hotel and rest. Then you can walk around the city. You will have dinner with the guide at 8 p.m. and discuss the program.

Day 2 Boat trip to Avacha Bay

Today you will enjoy a boat trip to the Avacha Bay(5-6 hours). You will see sea bird rookeries on Babushkin Kamen (Old Woman’s Stone) Island and Tri Brata (Three Brothers) Island. Go out to the Pacific ocean tup to Starichkov Island, where you will watch the largest sea bird rookery in Kamchatka.

 

After the sea excursion will move to the Mutnovsky volcano area. Here will set up a camp, have dinner and spend the night in tents.

Day 3 Climbing to the crater of Mutnovsky volcano

You will climb to the crater of the Mutnovsky volcano (2323 m high). Observe the active fumaroles, mud siphons, and a mountain lake. The Mutnovsky crater is the one of the most outstanding volcanic phenomena in Kamchatka. The steep slopes surround the wide and deep cavity of the crater with gleaming glaciers, crushed cracks and boiling fumaroles.

 

Climbing will take approximately 8 hours. Then you will return to the camp and rest. 

Day 4 Climbing the volcano Gorely

Today you will visit another active volcano Gorely (1829 m high), moving past the lava flows and cinder fields, observing 3 craters with volcanic lakes. 

 

Climbing will take approximately 5-6 hours, after that you will move to the Paratunka recreation base. You will check in and swim in the thermal pools. 

Day 5 Optional day

On this day it is possible to go on a helicopter excursion to Geyser Valley and Uzon Caldera with walking around Geyser Valley and having lunch outdoors. There are more than 20 big geysers in the valley, including Velican (Giant), Zhemchuzhny (Pearly), Sakharny (Sugary), Troinoi (Triple), Konus (Cone), Fontan (Fountain), Maly (Small), Bolshoy (Big), Shchel (Split). There are geysers that gush forth every 10-12 minutes, while others may erupt once in 4-5 hours. 

 

Also today you can visit Kuril lake watching the bears. The excursions are paid additionally.


In the evening you will move to the high plateau between the Avachinsky and Koryaksky volcanoes. You will stay at the Avachinsky alpine camp.

Day 6 Climbing up the Avacha volcano

You will climb one of the main Kamchatka volcanoes – Avachinsky, which has a height of 749 m. Ascent lasts 6-8 hours, the descent takes about 3 hours.

 

You will return to the camp in the evening and rest after climbing. If desired, you can order a bath.

Day 7 A walk through Camel mount and the Koryaksky volcano

Today you will find an exciting off-road trip to the high plateau located between Avachinsky and Koryak volcanoes. There you will have about 2-3 hours to walk along the volcanoes' slopes and the Camel mountain. 

 

Here you can find entire colonies of ground squirrels and make wonderful pictures of mountain landscapes.

 

Then you will return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, can walk along the city and rest in hotel. 

Day 8 Rafting on the Bystraya river

First, you will reach the Bystraya river valley by car. From here your three-day rafting will begin. You will enjoy the wildlife of Kamchatka, fishing. In the evening you will make a stop to choose a place to stay and set up camp. Have dinner, spend the night in tents on the bank of the river.

Day 9 Watching the wild nature

Your rafting continues, and today you will pass two rapids. You can go fishing, pick mushrooms and berries, watch the seagulls and wild ducks. If you are lucky, you will even see a bear or a Steller's sea eagle. You will spend the night in tents on the river bank.

Day 10 Finishing of rafting

Today you will pass one more rapid and finish your rafting. Then you will go back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky by car, where you will stay at the hotel. In the evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 11 Homecoming

After breakfast you will move to the airport. On the way you will stop at the fish market and souvenir shops.

Accommodation during the trip

Accommodation during the tour will be different. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky you will stay in a comfortable double room with bathroom (Petropavlovsk Нotel 3* or Geyser Нotel 3*). At the Paratunka resort center you will spend one night at the tourist baze with a thermal pool. On the basis of the Avachinsky alpine camp you will stay at houses for 4-10 people. During rafting and climbing the Mutnovsky volcano you will spend the night in tents.

Who will be my guide +

A group of 16-18 people is accompanied by a senior guide and assistant. To become a senior, you need 2-3 years to work as an assistant. Many guides graduated from mountaineering school or an international school of guides. The conductors on the active part of the journey are well acquainted with the route. In transport with you will be a representative of the travel agency, in his absence, the accompanying functions fall on the driver.

Meals +

Meals will be cooked three times a day. Take a snack with you while climbing. Tea, coffee and cookies are always available. The menu can be adapted to accommodate vegetarians — notify the manager when booking.

What the weather looks like +

Kamchatka is a mountainous region stretching from the north to the south and surrounded by the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of ​​Okhotsk. The weather here is variable, and different regions have their own microclimate. For trekking tours, June can be the most convenient, when there are no mosquitoes and the leaves of trees and grass do not interfere with the survey and movement. The best months for summer travel are July and August.

 The average temperature in August is from +12 to +16 °С depending on the area, so do not forget to take warm clothes. On the highest parts of the mountains there are glaciers. It is possible to rain, but at high altitudes, even snow. In the forests at this time, there are a lot of mosquitoes and midges, so we advise you to purchase protective equipment. In September, the weather is stable, but it is necessary to take the lower temperature into account and the possibility of frost.

What should I bring with me +

 Equipment:

  • Sleeping bag with zipper and hood (up to 0 °C in summer, up to -15 °C closer to autumn). Preferably, the sleeping bag had a modern synthetic filler, freely permeable evaporation, and waterproof coating gorteks. In addition to the sleeping bag, you can take a liner in a sleeping bag made of thin cotton or linen fabric.
  • The main backpack  (of about 70-80 liters volume). The size of the backpack is determined individually, based on the number of personal items. With proper selection of equipment the weight of the backpack does not exceed 15 kg.

Clothes and personal items:

  • Warm waterproof and windproof jacket with hood, belt and cuffs on the sleeves
  • Comfortable sport pants, non-restraining movement, made of light quick-drying material, able to keep warm at low temperature
