Active tour to the Putorana Plateau

In the program of this journey there is hiking to the Kamennyi Peninsula, boat trips and active leisure on Lake Lama. You will learn about culture and life of indigenous people of the Taymyr Peninsula, have an excursion to an ethnographic museum in Dudinka and visit a house of White Shaman. Аlso, you will find out how to cook a traditional Siberian dish — sliced frozen raw fish. 

At an additional cost you can have a helicopter excursion to get around the most picturesque corners of the Putorana Plateau. In this trip you will see the highest waterfalls of Russia. As well as canyons — they are so deep that it is easy to hide the Eiffel Tower there.

Itinerary

The journey starts in Norilsk, where you must travel to on your own. We are ready to assist with the tickets purchasing. If necessary, leave a comment in the order.

Day 1 Arrival in Norilsk

You will be met in the airport of Norilsk. After that, you will have lunch in one of the restaurants in the city. Then, you will be transferred to a berth. From here, you will start a trip to Lake Lama.

 

The way lies along the Norilskaya and Talaya rivers, as well as Lake Melkoe. On arrival at Lake Lama, you will accommodate yourself in a recreation camp, have dinner and relax in sauna.

Day 2 A helicopter excursion or hiking to the Vitaminka river

If you have booked a helicopter excursion, after breakfast you will have a flight to the Putorana Nature Reserve. Flying over deep canyons and picturesque waterfalls is waiting for you in this journey. During a stop, you will have lunch. Then, you will continue exploring the Putorana Plateau.

 

If you haven’t booked a helicopter excursion, today you will go hiking to the Kamenny Peninsula. To the starting point of the route you will get with a runboat. Upon your arrival at the Peninsula, you will start hiking to a waterfall on the Vitaminka river. It is located in a valley between Pavel and Elena mountains. The tops got these names in the Soviet years: that times, here there were two camps — one for boys, another one for girls.

 

In the evening, all the participants will meet in the recreation camp. You will have dinner. If desired, you can go to sauna or stay in a font with warm water outside.

Day 3 Hiking along the mountain river

After breakfast you will take a speedboat to Lake Kapchuk — the starting point of the walking route (about 40 minutes).


Crossed the lake, you would come to the mouth of the Nikita-Yuryakh river. Here you will make a fire and cook meal for lunch. Then you will start a hiking route along the mountain river with the experienced guides.

 

Hiking will be quite easy, so if you are ready to some real challenge you can walk further and climb to the mount near the Geologist's point. Stunning views of Lake Kapchuk are waiting for you from the top.


In the evening you will return to the recreation camp, have dinner, relax and go to sauna.

Day 4 An excursion to the house of White Shaman

After breakfast, with a runboat you will go to the house of White Shaman. On the way, the landscapes of Lake Lama will change from flat shores to magnificent mountains with a height up to 1200 meters.

 

During the tour around the house, you will learn about mysterious things happening on the Putorana Plateau. Also, you will see a collection of artifacts gathered by the Shaman. The house is located opposite the Satan mountain. Since ancient times it is considered to be a place of power — shamans came here to communicate with spirits of nature and ancestors.

 

After excursion you will visit one of the most beautiful waterfalls of these places, located on the Southern Nerelah river. Then you will have lunch on cliffs here.


You will come back to the recreation camp in the evening. Before dinner, you can go fishing or choose aquabiking. 

Day 5 Hiking on the Kamennyi Peninsula

This day you will have an easy ascent to the Festivalnaya mountain, which is located on the Kamennyi Peninsula. The top of the mountain offers amazing views of the Putorana Plateau, Lake Lama and Lake Kapchuk.

 

On route you will have a stop for lunch. For dinner you will come back to the recreation camp. In the evening you will have free time. If desired, you can go fishing or choose aquabiking or waterskiing.

Day 6 A visit to the Central home

In Soviet times, a children's camp was built at the foot of the Putoran mountains. Nowadays it functions as a recreation camp for Norilsk Nickel employees. It is a great house, that was built in the late 30-ies without using a single nail.


After lunch you will return to the base. From here you will be transferred back to Norilsk by a speedboat. Upon arrival, you will be met at the city pier and taken to a hotel. You will rest for a while and then have dinner in a restaurant. 

Day 7 A visit to the ethnographic museum in Dudinka

After breakfast, you will go to Dudinka. Local citizens proudly call this town “a capital of the Taymyr Peninsula”. On the way, the guide will tell you many interesting facts about life and culture of local people.  

 

Upon arrival to Dudinka you will go to the ethnographic museum. Here you will see a unique exposition: a skeleton of a baby mammoth Zhenya that was found on the Taymyr Peninsula. Shamanic costumes and ceremonial objects of indigenous people. You will learn about Arctic exploration and polar expeditions. Also you will participate in a workshop and find out how to cook a traditional Siberian dish — sliced frozen raw fish. After lunch you will have a walk along embankment of the Yenisei and see an unusual port. Then you will go back to Norilsk.

 

In the evening you will have free time for a walk along the city. Then you will have a farewell dinner in a city restaurant.

Day 8 Departure

This day, you will be transferred to the airport in Norilsk, from where you will have a flight back home.

Accommodation during the trip

During the journey, you will spend 5 nights in Firebird Farmstead recreation camp. It is located on the shore of Lake Lama. There is a two-storey wooden house and two smaller wooden houses. A toilet is located outside. On the first floor of the big house there is a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen, a lounge with a TV and a game console. On the second floor there are two double bedrooms and an extended enclosed balcony with panoramic windows.

 

In every smaller house there are two bunk beds for four people. There is a spacious sauna, a heated Finnish font and a barbecue garden-house on the territory of the camp.

 

In Norilsk you will stay in Norilsk Hotel 3* for two nights. It is situated in the city center. In a standard double room there is a bathroom, comfortable furniture, TV and the Internet. There is sauna, gym and snooker in the hotel.
