Join a one-of-a-kind expedition and experience the Northern Urals from the air, on land, and on the water. You’ll take a helicopter tour to Manpupuner Plateau, one of Russia’s Seven Wonders, travel by jet boats along the Lozva River, and ride quad bikes to Dyatlov Pass.
You’ll learn about the traditional way of life of the Mansi people, visit a local history museum, and take in panoramic views of the mountain ranges and the source of the Pechora River. Every evening, you’ll gather around a campfire surrounded by the taiga and unwind in a hot banya after an action-packed day.
Accommodation combines comfort with the wilderness: you’ll spend three nights at a yurt camp on the banks of the Lozva River, with electricity, Wi-Fi, and a banya, as well as one night at a guesthouse in Ivdel. All transfers are included, from off-road vehicle and jet-boat transfers to a flight aboard an Mi-8 helicopter. You’ll also be provided with all the necessary equipment and receive detailed safety briefings from the team of guides.
Interpreter services are available in English, Chinese, and other languages for an additional fee.
You’ll arrive in Ivdel and check in to the guesthouse. Here, you’ll meet the expedition team, complete the necessary paperwork, get fitted with equipment, and receive a detailed briefing on the route ahead.
You’ll then visit the local history museum, whose exhibits focus on the traditional way of life of the Mansi, an Indigenous people of the northern Urals.
After breakfast, you’ll travel 85 km by off-road vehicle to the village of Vizhay, a journey of around three hours. By lunchtime, you’ll reach a glamping site, where jet boats will be waiting for you.
After lunch, you’ll set off down the mountain river Lozva, covering 79 km. Along the way, you’ll stop in the Mansi village of Ushma to learn about the local way of life. You’ll then continue north along the Ural Mountains, passing rocky riverbanks and the Snake and Whale Caves. Your journey will end at a comfortable yurt camp on the riverbank, equipped with modern amenities, electricity, and Wi-Fi.
About 150 km from the nearest signs of civilization, you’ll enjoy dinner surrounded by the remote taiga, relax in the banya, take a dip in a mountain stream, and gather around the campfire in the evening.
If water levels in the Lozva are critically low, the jet boats will be replaced by an off-road vehicle.
After breakfast, you’ll set off by giant ATVs toward Dyatlov Pass and Mount Kholatchakhl, covering 45 km. The first 15 km follow part of the 2016 Ural Trophy off-road championship route, with challenging mud, river crossings, and marshy terrain along the way.
From Ilyich’s Base, you’ll begin a three-hour journey to the pass, covering another 25 km across rocky riverbeds, washed-out terrain, and fields of loose rock where conventional vehicles cannot go. You’ll visit the memorial to the Dyatlov group and the site where their tent once stood. Lunch will be served right in the mountains.
You’ll then board an Mi-8 MTV helicopter for a sightseeing flight over Manpupuner Plateau. Flying at low altitude, you’ll have a close-up view of the Ural Mountains’ most spectacular peaks: Mount Otorten and its glacial lake, Mounts Shchebenka, Evropa–Asia, Koip, Pechor-Ya-Talyakh-Syakhyl, and the source of the Pechora, one of the great rivers of northern Russia. On the return flight, you’ll fly over Dyatlov Pass.
You’ll then return to the pass, where a tent camp will already be set up for the night.
An overnight stay in the mountains is possible only in favorable weather conditions. If the weather deteriorates, the group will return to the yurt camp along the same route, covering more ground that day. You may also choose to return to the camp immediately after visiting the plateau.
Important: The helicopter flight may be canceled due to bad weather. In this case, the cost of the helicopter excursion will be refunded in full. If bad weather occurs on Day 3, the flight will be rescheduled for Day 4.
After breakfast, you’ll make your way back to the yurt camp. Lunch will be served on the banks of the Lozva River.
By evening, you’ll be back at camp, where a hot banya, a bed with fresh linens, and an evening around the campfire await you as you share stories from the day.
After breakfast, you’ll travel back to Vizhay by jet boat. Once you arrive, you’ll have lunch at the glamping site you visited earlier, followed by a transfer to Ivdel.
In the evening, you’ll arrive back in Ivdel, the final stop of the expedition, and enjoy a farewell dinner.
By prior arrangement and subject to availability, you can extend your stay by spending an additional night at the guesthouse for an extra fee. If water levels are critically low, the return journey along the river will also be made by off-road vehicle.

Located in Ivdel. Accommodation is in rooms for 2–4 guests. Double rooms have either one double bed or two twin beds. Four-person rooms have two bunk beds.
The guesthouse has two shared bathrooms, a lounge with underfloor heating, a kitchen, and a laundry room.
Located in the taiga on the banks of the Lozva River. Accommodation is in yurts for 6–14 guests. Each yurt has bunk beds, a bar counter for tea, a washbasin, a drying rack for clothes and footwear, and power outlets.
Facilities include a dining room, banya, heated toilet, and campfire area. Electricity and Wi-Fi are available.
Professional training and perfect physical fitness are required. The level involves climbing to the tops of the mountains (above 3000 meters), freeriding and North Pole diving.
Summer in the Northern Urals is generally mild and moderately warm. In June, average temperatures are around +19°C during the day and +13°C at night. In August, daytime temperatures average +17°C, while nighttime temperatures are around +12°C. Winds are predominantly southwesterly.
By September, cooler autumn weather sets in, with average daytime temperatures of +9 to +10°C and nighttime temperatures dropping to +6 to +8°C.

Three meals a day are included in the tour price, except for breakfast on Day 1. On Days 2, 3, and 4, meals follow a field-camp menu. Tea, coffee, cookies, and sweets are available throughout the day.
You will be accompanied throughout the tour by 2–3 experienced guides. Before setting out, they will provide a detailed safety briefing.
There is no mobile phone coverage along the route. Satellite Wi-Fi is available at the yurt camp in the evenings.

The Northern Urals is considered a region of Russia with an elevated risk of tick-borne encephalitis. We therefore recommend getting vaccinated well in advance of your trip.
A full course of vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis consists of three doses. The first should be administered at least 45 days before the trip, the second one month after the first, and the third 12 months after the second. This vaccination schedule provides protection against the disease for up to three years. After that, a single booster dose is recommended every three years to maintain immunity. Vaccinations are available at local clinics or licensed private medical facilities.
If your trip was not planned far in advance, an accelerated two-dose schedule may be used, which is generally sufficient to develop immunity. In this case, the first dose should be administered at least 21 days before the trip, and the second seven days after the first.
If you have less than 21 days before your trip and have not been vaccinated, we recommend purchasing tick-borne encephalitis insurance. The cost is RUB 400 per person. It is important to arrange this in advance, as the policy only becomes active five days after purchase. If you are bitten by a tick, immunoglobulin treatment will be provided at any medical facility in Russia, reducing the risk of developing the disease.
