Journey to the Southern Ural

During this trip you will explore several nature reserves and national parks of the Southern Ural, visit famous historical sites of Bashkiriya, admire beautiful Ural lakes and taste the Bashkir cuisine. 

We recommend this program to those appreciating comfort and excursion format. You will cover distance of about 1,500 km, visiting iconic historical and natural highlights of  Bashkiriya and the Southern Ural. Besides excursions, the program includes hiking and relax on the Bannoye and Talkas Lakes. 

During 10 days of journey around the Southern Ural you will:

  • walk in oak woods of the Bashkiriya National Park
  • enjoy fantastic views of the Bolshoi Ik river canyons in the Muradymovskoye Gorge
  • discover secrets of the Kapova Cave — a unique monument of paleolithic epoch 
  • visit the Golden Bee Museum and observe the process of gathering wild hive bee honey
  • take a swim in Lake Talkas which is rich with calcium, magnesium, and sodium and have a rest on Lake Bannoye considered to be the deepest one at the Republic of Bashkortostan
  • get acquainted with secrets of Arkaim — an ancient fortified settlement, located in the dormant volcano vent 
  • visit the Sibayski Quarry — the Europe’s deepest one
  • find out the history of an ancient Russian village Kaga 
  • climb one of the tops of the Shikhany Mountain Range  
  • visit kumys farm and taste this traditional Bashkir drink 
  • visit holly springs with healing water in Krasnousolsk

The cost of the tour depends on the date:  860 EURO per person is for trips in 2020 and 920 EURO per person — in 2021

Itinerary

The journey begins in Ufa, where you should travel to on your own. We are ready to assist with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, leave a comment in the application.

 

The group meets at the central entrance of "Ufa" general store, (address: Prospekt Oktyabrya, 31 (October Avenue) at 10 am on Day 1. Please note, that the local time is +2 hours from the Moscow time. 

 

The program may have changes depending on the group level and due to weather conditions. 

Day 1 Transfer to Kaga village

After meeting the group in Ufa, you will drive to Kaga village by bus. The road passes through mountain-forest areas of the Southern Ural; part of the route covers territory of the South Ural Nature Reserve. If the weather allows, you will enjoy wonderful view of the Southern Ural highest mountain — Yaman-Tau.
 

Upon arrival to Kaga, you will have lunch. Then you will go to excursion about history of the ancient Russian village and Ural ironworks. You will visit the Nikolskiy church, that is an architectural monument of the end of the 19th century. In the evening, you will be accommodated in Starosubkhangulovo village and have dinner.

 

The route length — 300 km by car.

Day 2 Visiting of Nature reserves

Today you will explore the territory of Bashkirsky Nature Reserve. From a view point  you will observe breathtaking panorama of the Southern Ural mountain range. 
 

On your way to Shulgan-Tash Nature Reserve, you will visit kumys farm to taste this traditional Bashkir drink; kumys is a fermented dairy product made from mare's milk. You will have lunch enroute. 
 

Shulgan-Tash Nature Reserve was founded for protection of the local population of wild bee, which has been cultivated since ancient times by the local Bashkir people. You will visit the Golden Bee Museum and an existing bee apiary. You will have an opportunity to taste wild bee honey (at additional cost). 

 

Then you will visit the Kapova Cave which is a unique monument of the paleolithic epoch. In the evening, you will return to the Starosubkhangulovo village and have dinner. 
 

The route length — 240 km by car

Day 3 Rest on Lake Bannoye

Kaga village is a well-known horse-breeding center in Bashkiria. In the morning, if you wish, and for an additional fee, you can take a horse ride around the area. 

 

Then you will take part in a workshop of creating traditional souvenirs. In the afternoon you will go to the Bannoye Lake whichis considered to be the deepest one at the Republic of Bashkortostan. In the evening you will be accommodated in a hotel. You can have dinner in the hotel cafe at additional cost. 

 

The route length — 135 km by car.

Day 4 Lake Talkas and Temyasovo village

For the first half of the day, you will enjoy leisure time on the Bannoye Lake. If you wish for an additional fee, you can climb to the observation deck, visit the nursery "White Doctor" or the Museum of Military Glory and taste honey in a honey shop.
 

In the afternoon you will move to the Talkas Lake. On the way you will stop at a kumys farm as well as visit the site where jasper rock outcrops can be observed. You will also visit the first Bashkirian capital — Temyasovo village. In Temyasovo you will have an excursion to a historical-cultural centre. If you wish, you can also visit the museum of local history and private cheese factory at additional cost. 

 

On Lake Talkas you relax on the beach, take a swim or go for hiking along the slope of the Irendyk ridge. Then you will move to Sibai city and check in to a hotel. You can have dinner in the hotel cafe at additional cost. 
 

 

The route length — 190 km by car.

Day 5 Arkaim Historical and Cultural Reserve

Today you will visit the Arkaim State Historical&Cultural Reserve . On the way to the reserve, you will cross the Ural River — the water border between Europe and Asia. 

 

In Arkaim you will have an excursion to the Museum of Nature and Man, during which you will learn about the reserve and history of ancient settlement Arkaim and see archaeological finds.
 

You can have lunch on the territory of the reserve at additional cost, have a walk around, and then return to the hotel in Sibay. You can have dinner in the hotel cafe at additional cost. 
 

The route length — 180 km by car.

Day 6 “Copper capital” of Bashkiria

After breakfast you will visit the Sibai Local History Museum and the Sibai quarry (if visit to the site is allowed on that day). The Sibai quarry is the deepest one in Europe having a depth of 500 m and 2 km in diameter. 
 

In the afternoon, you will go to the Muradymovskoye Gorge National Park located in the Kugarchinski Region. The region is famous with its fantastic canyons and caves. 
 

In the evening you will stay at the hotel on the national park territory and have dinner. 
 

The route length — 260 km by car.

Day 7 Muradymovskoye Gorge

This day exploration of the Muradymovskoye Gorge National Park is waiting for you. You will enjoy gorgeous views of mountain chains and cliffs breaking steeply above the Bolshoi Ik river. 

 

The park has the largest number of caves throughout the Southern Urals. If you wish, you can visit some of them for an additional fee (about 5 EURO pp).

 

In the afternoon, you will move to the Yumaguzinskoye water reserve, settle in a tourist camp and have dinner. 
 

The route length — 90 km by car.

Day 8 Rest on Nugushskoye water reserve

After breakfast you will go to the Bashkiriya National Park. The park is located in a picturesque area on the western spurs of the Southern Urals, between the rivers Nugush and Belaya (Russian for White). 

 

You will spend the day relaxing on the Nugushskoye water reserve. The lake is surrounded by magnificent sceneries of forests and mountains. If you wish, you can go for a boat excursion after lunch (extra charge about 20 EURO pp). By evening you will return to the camp site and have dinner.
 

The route length — 50 km by car.

Day 9 Shikhany mountains

 After breakfast  you will go to the Voskresenskoye village to visit the local art gallery. 
 

Then you will move to the Shikhany village camp base and have lunch. In the afternoon you will have trekking to the top of one of the mountain of the Shikhany rock massif. It consists of four separate mountains, stretching along the right bank of the Belaya river: Tora-tau, Shakh-tau, Yurak-tau and Kush-tau. 

 

The Shikhany mountains are considered to be the unique nature monument, formed from ancient coral reefs remains. The reefs existed in the Devonian period 300 millions years ago. Today you can still find corals, sponges, the echinoderms and seaweeds of that period. 
 

The route length — 150 km by car, 5-7 km on foot.

Day 10 Return to Ufa

You will go to the Gafuriyski Region and have an excursion to the Krasnousolskiy resort where you will visit Tabynskaya church and the holly springs. 
 

The uniqueness of the Krasnousolskiy resort is in about 250 mineral springs that are located in an area of 15 ga. If you wish, you can take a bath in basins or visit the resort SPA at additional cost

 

After lunch at the resort you will travel to Ufa by bus. Approximate time of arrival in Ufa is 7 pm. The bus will bring you to the starting point of the program. This is also the finishing point of the trip.

Accommodation during the trip

For the first 2 days of the journey you will stay at "Yulbars" Hotel located in the Starosubkhangulovo village  at the Belya River bank. From the rooms’ windows guests can observe scenic views of the river and the Shilandy cliff. On the hotel territory there are a restaurant, billiard, a sauna, a kids playing room and a barbecue area. You will be accommodated in double standard rooms with a private bathroom, 2 single beds, TV, an air-conditioner and a refrigerator. 

 

On day 3 you will overnight at "Monblan" Hotel in the Zelyonaya Polyana (Russian for "Green meadow") village in the centre of Bannoye resort complex. On the hotel territory there are a restaurant, a Russian banya, a barbecue area, a kids playing room, billiard, and bowling. You will be accommodated in double standard rooms with a private bathroom, 2 single beds, TV, and free Wi-Fi. 
 

From day 4 to day 6 you will stay at "Altynai" Hotel in the Sibai village. You will be accommodated in double standard rooms with a private bathroom, 2 single beds, a wardrobe, TV, free Wi-Fi, a refrigerator and a tea-kettle. 

 

From day 6 to day 7 you will stay at "Lesnaya Skazka" (Russian for "Forest fairy tale") tourist base, located near the Muradymovskoye Gorge National Park. On the base territory there are a cafe, banyas, barbecue areas. You will be accommodated in double standard rooms with 1 double bed, a sofa, WC and a wash basin. 
 

From day 7 to day 9 you will stay at "Bashkirskaya derevnya" (Russian for "Bashkir village") tourist base, located on the Belaya River bank near Yumaguzinskoye water reserve. You will be accommodated in wooden cottages, in double standard rooms with 1 double or 2 single beds, a shower area, an air-conditioner, a refrigerator and an electric tea-kettle.

 

On the last day of the trip you will stay at "Shikhany" tourist base, located by the foot of Kush-tau Mountain on the Belaya River right bank. The base is surrounded by forests and the Shikhany mountains. On the base territory there are a cafe, a gym, sport and kids playgrounds, billiard, ping-pong, Russian banyas, a sauna, barbecue areas. You will be accommodated in double standard rooms with a private bathroom, an air-conditioner, a refrigerator, and TV.

Who will be my guide +

Experienced guides will accompany you throughout the tour. The guide speaks English language and works both with the Russian and foreign tourists. Individual interpreter services for a foreign group are paid additionally (+730 EURO per group). 

 

On request, we can provide an interpreter speaking other languages: German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese.

Can I take part +

The tour is recommended for tourists without special physical training as there is no any difficult activity in the program

Can children take part +

Children over 8 years old can participate in the tour accompanied by their parents

Meals +

The price includes three meals a day with dishes of Bashkir cuisine on days 2, 6-9. Additionally, you will need to pay for lunch on day 5, as well as dinners on days 3-5.

What will be the weather +

In the Southern Ural in May the average day temperature is +10-15°С, the night temperature can drop to 0°С. In summer, the average day temperature is +20-25°С, night temperature is +12-15°С. From mid August temperature is becoming cooler.
