Experiences you'll have

Elbrus Climb from the South

Any summiting of the top is always a challenge, especially when you are going to climb the highest mountain peak in Europe. You will climb Elbrus from the South, take great pictures of the Caucasus mountains and experience incredibly strong emotions, turned out on the top of Russia.

This 7-day program is the best for those people who has already had some experience in mountain climbing, as you will have only 3 days for acclimatization in the highlands.

Summiting Elbrus, that will take 9 to 12 hours including descent, is planned for the fifth or sixth day of the expedition. Three days before it you will spend taking quick and easy acclimatizing hikes to the Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (3200 m), from which in good weather you can enjoy marvelous views of Elbrus, Nakra, Donguz-Orun and many other mountains. Then you will increase the height of the ascent and make two other climbs – to an elevation of 4050 m (to the former Priyut 11) and to 4700 m – to Pastukhov’s Rocks.

Itinerary

The journey begins in Mineralnye Vody, where you should get to on your own.

We are ready to help with the tickets purchasing, if necessary, please, leave a comment in the application. We recommend flights with arrival in Mineralnye Vody before 3 pm (in the first day) and return flight after 12 pm (in the last day of trip).

Day 1 Arrival to Mineralnye Vody

You will be met at the airport of Mineralnye Vody and taken to the hotel, located in the Baksan river valley, near of Terskol village. The route will take about 3 hours.

In the evening you will meet with the guide and have dinner.

Day 2 Acclimatization hikes

Today you will make an acclimatization hike to Maid’s Braids waterfall (at 2700 m) and further on, to the Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (3100 m). From here you will see the Western and Eastern peaks of Elbrus and the entire route of ascent.

Day 3 Lifting to the mountain shelter

In the morning you will take a lift to the mountain shelter, at the height of 3720 m and set up there.

After a snack you will make an acclimatization hike to an elevation of 4550m, to the lower part of Pastukhov’s Rocks. Then you will come back to the shelter, have dinner and rest.

Day 4 Rest day

A rest day allows the body to adapt better to the height, and this is the key point for successful summiting of the top.

Today you will make the final preparations for summiting Elbrus, check-up the equipment and rest.

Day 5 Ascent to the mount Elbrus

You have to get up very early, at 2 am. After breakfast you will take thermoses and food for a snack and go on the ascent to the Western top of the mountain. The summiting of the top will take from 8 to 10 hours, depending on the speed of the group.

We recommend you to use the snowcat from the shelter to the base of Pastukhov's Rocks (4700 m) or to the height of 5000 m. It will save about 3-4 hours and a lot of efforts.

The control time at the top is 1:00 pm. After that all members of the group should start the descent, wherever they are at this moment. The descent will take about 5-6 hours.

Day 6 Reserve day

In case of bad weather on the previous day, this day will be used as a reserve for climbing. If the ascent took place the day before, you would return to Terskol and relax in the hotel.

Day 7 Departure

At 7:00 am you will be taken to Mineralnye Vody airport.

Probably there will be some time for a walk in Pyatigorsk after you reach the airport and leave your luggage there. On your own, you can visit also the well-known Russian poet Lermontov’s duel place.

Who will be my guide +

You will be accompanied by the experienced mountain guides: one leading guide during the whole program and several assistants for the day of summiting the top, with a strict proportion of 1 guide per three climbers.

Upon arrival inTerskol village all groups are registered in the Elbrus detachment of the Ministry of emergency situations of Russia, receive advice on the weather conditions and the state of the route. You can contact the rescuers throughout the route by phone.

Each group is provided with a medical kit, radio and satellite navigation.

Are there any restrictions of participation in the tour +

Participation in this tour is not recommended for people who have medical contraindications to mountain sports and outdoor activities (heart disease, serious diseases).

We recommend you to prepare seriously for Elbrus climbing and start endurance training a few months before climbing: run, go to the gym or pool, etc.

Natural factors (height and associated with it rarefaction of air, cold, frost, frequent winds, lack of visibility in bad weather, the release of sulfur gases, increased activity of solar radiation) will require from the participants to be in good physical shape, to have high-quality equipment.
