Winter adventures in Kamchatka

In just one week you will do plenty of things: enjoy the stunning landscape of winter in Kamchatka, go to Avachinsky volcano in snowmobile sleds, try out managing a dog team, walk along the shore of the Pacific Ocean, ski on the Frosty Hill, and relax in the hot springs. You will be able to take a helicopter trip to the world-famous Valley of Geysers. 

Itinerary: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky — Ski centre — Avachinsky Volcano — Dog breeding centre — Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

You can extend this programme with a 4-day trip to the national settlement Esso (booking in advance, extra charge).

Itinerary

The journey begins with a meeting at the airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which you must travel to on your own. We can help with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, leave a comment on the application.

Day 1 Paratunka

Arrive in Petropalovsk-Kamchatski in the afternoon. Meeting at the airport with the driver or the company representative, transfer to the city (25 km). Check-in at the hotel Geyser*** where the office of the company is located. Rest to accommodate the jet lag. 

In the evening take a trip to Paratunka resort centre located next to the city to relax in the swimming pool filled with Kamchatkan thermal water. 

Spend the night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (half board)

Day 2 Ski centre and hot springs 

After breakfast in the hotel, transfer by car to the Moroznaya (Frosty) Mountain downhill ski centre located 30 km away from the city. At your choice and expense, enjoy excellent downhill skiing / snowboarding / Nordic flatland skiing in the mountains or cross-country skiing on a groomed ski trail in the vicinity of Petropalovsk-Kamchatski. 

In the afternoon, have a trip to Zelenovskie Ozerki (Lakes) to check the local hot springs and have a plunge in the hydro-sulphuric thermal waters.

Day 3 Avachinski volcano

Today a day trip (6-7 hrs) to the foothills of the magnificent Avachinski volcano awaits us. 

After breakfast, transfer out of the city. You will be taken by snowmobiles ("Yamaha" or "Polaris", driven by the instructor) or in the sleds towed by the snowmobile to the foothills of the volcano Avachinski, which is considered one of the most scenic and active volcanoes of Kamchatka. 

Return in the evening. Spend the night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (full board). 

Day 4 Malki thermal springs

After breakfast, leave for Malki, where the hot thermal springs and cold river waters mix naturally to fill the puddles and mini-pools with warm and hot water. 

Transfer to Malki (120 km). Enjoy the relaxing warmth of the Malkinskie thermal springs. 

Return in the evening. Spend the night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (full board).

Day 5 Dog breeding centre and Pacific Ocean

After breakfast, leave for Kamchatkan dog breeding centre. Get introduced to dog maintenance and training by the local staff. Try to learn about mushing from the professional musher and take a ride in turn in the dog sleds (1 person/sled while the others are on the snowmobile and in the snowmobile sleds, 3 hrs in total). 

In the afternoon we will depart for the Pacific Ocean. 
Enjoy a walk along the shore of the magnificent Pacific and contemplate the bizarre ice and snow formations on the rocks. Spend the night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (full board). 

Day 6 Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

After breakfast, have a sightseeing tour of the city. Visit the Local History and Culture Museum famous for its impressive ethnographic exhibition. In the afternoon, go to the Mokhovoy sea pier to watch the eared seals who have come to this site from November to May for a number of years. Spend the night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (full board)

Day 7 Optional activities

The day can be used for optional trips (for an extra fee to be paid in cash on the spot): 
— a half-day helicopter tour to the Valley of Geysers, provided that the weather permits conditions allow and a group is formed 
— a full-day trip to Vilyuchinsky volcano by snowmobile and sleds, with a walk to the waterfall and a visit to the natural baths (book in advance) 
— a trip to a ski station for downhill skiing / snowboarding / Nordic skiing at the Frosty mountain or another downhill centre.

Day 8 Departure

After breakfast, visit the Fish Market to buy delicious sea fruit and purchase Kamchatka souvenirs for those who are waiting for you back home.
