Experiences you'll have

You will be staying at the only guest house in the Kuniyok River Valley, located in the center of the Khibiny Mountains. Each day, you will enjoy uncomplicated climbing and trekking routes, so no special preparation is required.

Discount available when booking before June 10. The new price is 62, 000 49, 900 RUB/pp.

Highlights of the journey:

  • you will see mountain lakes with crystal-clear water and enjoy lunch on the shore of one of them
  • taste northern berries that grow in the river valley
  • take photos with the renowned waterfall known as “Beautiful”
  • climb the Kuelporr mountain and swim in the mountain lake

The base rate is in RUB. The price in dollars (561 USD) depends on the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Russia minus 2% and is valid as of March 13, 2024.

Itinerary

The journey begins in Kirovsk, where you should get to on your own by 2:30 PM on the first day of the program.

Day 1 Arrival in Khibiny

You will be met at the airport and taken to the guest house, which is located in the center of the Khibiny National Park. The road passes through mountainous landscapes and rocky shallow rivers. Along the way, there will be stops at viewpoints where you can take photos amidst the tundra and mountains.


Upon arrival at the guest house, you will check into your room and have lunch. Afterward, the guide will brief you about the route, and you will take a short walk around the guest house surroundings. 


In the evening, you will enjoy dinner and relax.

Day 2 Climbing Kuelporr Mountain

After breakfast, you will embark on a climb to Kuelporr Mountain, which does not exceed an altitude of 1000 m. Kuelporr Mountain gained fame in the 1970s-1980s for its role in testing a new method of extracting apatite ores.

 

You will traverse several mountain passes and see the Risjok waterfall, also known as the Beautiful waterfall. You will also visit the observation platform –a rocky ledge with abandoned adits buried in it. Upon reaching the top, you will leave a note for the next group in the stone pyramid.

 

You will have lunch outdoors, and in the evening, you will have dinner back at the guest house.

Day 3 North Rischorr Pass

After breakfast, you will head to the North Rischorr Mountain Pass. Upon crossing it, you will see the panorama of the Witches' Gorge, Khibiny tundras, and Lake Umbozero. The guide will choose a scenic spot for a picnic.


After lunch, you will set off on your way back. Back to the guest house you will have dinner and relax.

Day 4 Trekking to South Chorrgor Pass

Today, after breakfast at the guest house, you will embark on a trek to South Chorrgor Pass. You will hike through blueberry forests and reach the mountain lake at the foot of the pass. Here, you will stop for lunch and have a chance to test your endurance by swimming in the icy lake – the water temperature is less than 6 °C. 


After lunch, you will continue your journey, ascending the slope, and take a break to admire the breathtaking views of the Khibiny Mountains. Then you will descend and return to the guest house.


In the evening you will have dinner at the guest house.

Day 5 Berry Valley and Picnic by the Lake

In the morning, you will have breakfast and then walk to Goltsovoye and Shchuchye Lakes, which you have already seen from Kuelporr Mountain and the North Rischorr Pass. On the way you will have a chance to eat northern berries, which the valley of the lakes is covered with – cloudberries, blueberries, stoneberries, and bilberries.


Today you will have a picnic lunch by the lake.


Back at the guest house, before dinner, you can relax in a Russian banya.

Day 6 Akademicheskoye Plateau

After breakfast, you will head to the Akademicheskoye plateau. The road to it traverses through the South Rischorr Pass. At the top of the plateau, you will have lunch while admiring the views of Akademicheskoe Lake. Then you will take a walk to Marchenko Peak and return to the guest house.


In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner and a barbecue by the campfire.

Day 7 Return Home

In the morning, you will have breakfast, pack your bags, and then you will be driven to the airport.

You will be staying at the Kuelporr guest house, located in a picturesque valley on the banks of the Kuniyok River. Nearby, you will find a waterfall and a panoramic platform offering breathtaking views of the Khibiny mountain massif. You will be accommodated in rooms for 5-6 people.

What will the weather be like +

The journey takes place above the Arctic Circle, the weather here is unstable and unpredictable. In summer, the average daytime air temperature is +15 to +18 °C. There is a high probability of abrupt weather changes. Be sure to take this into account when preparing for your trip.
