Have you already been snowmobiling across the plain? Then it's time to try mountain models. Go to our school of extreme snowmobiling in the Khibiny mountains. Here you will find experienced instructors and the most modern sports snowmobiles. You will learn to drive at any terrain and test yourself in the harsh conditions of the Russian North.

School of extreme snowmobiling in mountains

The Khibiny mountains is an ideal place to take a course in mountain snowmobiling in extreme conditions. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you will learn the basics of safe riding, as well as the technique of descents, ascents and turns on the slopes. By joining this snowmobile tour you will get a lot of adrenaline among the stunning scenery of snow-capped mountains, deep gorges, frozen waterfalls and forest lakes.

Every day you will follow new routes by modern mountain snowmobiles, discovering new landscapes and the majestic winter sceneries in the heart of the Khibiny mountains. And in the evening you will return to a cozy hotel and relax in the spa complex with a pool and a sauna.

 

Just in 4 days of the trip you will:

  • take a basic course of extreme mountain snowmobiling and will train your skills during daily radial routes, after that in the evenings you will analyze your training sessions and discuss mistakes with the guides
  • conquer the mountain passes, such as the Kukisvumchor Pass, the Northern Reschorr Pass and if the weather is good, you will go up to the Umbozersky pass
  • follow the routes of famous geological expeditions to the Kola Peninsula and the Khibiny mountains
  • see the legendary Wilhelm Ramsay's Gorge
  • admire the panorama of the Khibiny mountains from the observation points at the top of the Pass of Geographers and the Takhtarvumchorr mountain range
  • taste national venison and seafood cuisine as well as traditional local pastries

 

Choosing the dates of a trip, please keep in mind that the polar night lasts in Khibiny until mid-February. So, you should be ready for a short daylight hours. At the same time until mid-March it is likely to see the Northern lights.

Itinerary

The journey begins in Kirovsk, where you should travel to on your own (see details in "Common question" section). We are ready to help you with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, please, leave a comment in the application.

Day 1 Route to the W. Ramsay Pass

After meeting at the airport you will be taken to the hotel. Here you will be provided with gear and have some training on the slope to practice the techniques of descent, ascent and turn on a snowmobile.

 

In the afternoon you will go on the route to the W. Ramsay Pass. Its top offers scenic views of the Imandra lake and the valley of the Malaya Belaya river. Then you will go to the foothills of mount Petrelius, after which you will return to the hotel and relax.


The length of a route is 40-50 km by snowmobiles.

Day 2 Through the mountain passes

After breakfast you will have another training session on the slope, after which you will start the snowmobile route to the Kuniyok river gorge. The road will pass through the Kukisvumchorr Pass and the Northern Reschorr Pass, where you will visit the observation platforms.

 

Then you will go to the base, located at the foot of the Kuelporr mount in the heart of the Khibiny massif. If the weather is good, you can also reach the Umbozersky pass to enjoy the scenic surroundings. After returning to the hotel you will have dinner and rest. In the evening you can discuss difficult places on the route with the instructors and some mistakes in your driving.


The length of a route is 50-65 km by snowmobiles.

Day 3 The pearl of the Khibiny

Today you will drive a snowmobile to Lake Maly Vudyavr, that is considered to be the Pearl of the Khibiny Mountains. You will enjoy the amazing landscapes of a winter tundra, as well as will see the dancing conifers and stone boulders 'ingrown' among them.


Afterwards you will go to the Takhtarporr Ridge and visit its observation platforms and climb on snowmobiles four mountain plateau. In the evening you will return to the hotel. If you wish, ypu can visit the spa complex to relax after a busy day.

 

The length of a route is 30-45 km by snowmobiles.

Day 4 Departure

Your training in the school of extreme mountain snowmobiling has come to an end. You can demonstrate your skills by passing a special examination route.

 

Then snowmobiling to the Pass of Geographers is waiting for you. It is located between Lake Maly Vudyavr and the valley of the Bolshaya Belaya River. On the rise, steep slopes alternate with gentle landings. The peak overlooks the Khibiny Mountains, Lake Imandra and Apatity. Here you will admire a breathtaking scenery!

 

Coming back to the hotel, you will take SUVs to go back to Kirovsk.

Accommodation during the trip

During the tour you will stay at Tirvas Hotel. It is a comfortable recreation and SPA hotel complex, located in the Khibiny mountains, a 10-minute drive from Kirovsk. The hotel has a cafe, a billiard room, and a spa centre, which includes a pool with panoramic mountain views, a sauna and a hamam.

 

You will be accommodated in standard twin rooms overlooking the mountains. Each room has two single beds, a private bathroom, a TV with cable channels, a refrigerator, free Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom. If desired, and at an additional cost, you can choose to stay in a single room or in a superior room.

Who will be my guide? +

On your journey you will be accompanied by professional guides and instructors who have more than 10 years of experience working in the mountains. Each group of 5 tourists is accompanied by one guide (the division of tourists into groups will be carried out depending on the interests and level of physical training).

Meals +

The program price includes breakfast from the second to the fourth days of the tour, as well as daily snacks on routes with local delicacies (venison, Sami cuisine). You will need to pay extra for dinners, as well as for lunch on the first day.

How to get to Kirovsk +

We recommend to take Moscow to Kirovsk flight by Severstal . It departs on Thursday at 10:25 am and arrives at 12:30 am. The return flight is also by Severstal Airlines departing on Sunday at 5 pm. Arrival to Moscow at 7:10 pm.


If there is no direct flight, you can fly to Murmansk on the eve of the start of the program, spend the night in hotel there, or go directly to Kirovsk.

What kind of snowmobiles are used +

You will drive fully equipped and tested mountain snowmobiles of a new lineup: BRP Summit 850 -154, Summit 850-165 (2019 year of release), Summit 800-154, Summit 600-154, Summit 800-146 (2014 year of release).

 

The cost of the program also includes rental of all necessary gear and communication equipment.
