A snowmobile safari

You’ll learn how to drive a snowmobile and travel as much as 240 km of snowmobile trails in the sleepy Karelian forests! You’ll see the sacred, preserved sights of our northern realms: the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Yuzhni Dvor, the Transfiguration Church, and the Churchyard of the Isle of Kizhi.

Your trip will be a mix of a vibrant snowmobile safari and a great sightseeing tour that will take you to some historic UNESCO World Heritage sites!

Our guides will meet you at the Petrozavodsk Railway Station upon the arrival of train #18 from Moscow. You will then be taken to the starting point of the tour.

Itinerary

The journey begins in Russian Petrozavodsk, which you must travel to on your own. We are ready to assist with the purchase of tickets. If necessary, leave a comment in the order.

Day 1 First Turn

Your safari begins in Chalna, a small settlement 20 km away from Petrozavodsk. You will pick up gear, undergo training and learn how to drive a snowmobile.


Then the safari begins! The first part of the route goes from Chalna through lakes Urozero, Ukshezero and Konchezeroto the Marcial Watersvillage and then to the village of Shushky, for a total distance of 100 km. We stop in Marcial Waters – the first Russia spa-resort, founded by Peter the Great in 1729. Taste spa water of the ferruginous sources and visit Church of Apostol Peter, according to the legend, Peter the Great himself made the Church project.


After we return to the base, feel free to unwind and relax in the sauna and after enjoy the dinner with dishes of local cuisine.

Day 2 Church of Peter and Paul and the village of YuzhniDvor

This is the110-km route from the village Shushki to the LychnyIsle, then to the villages of Kedrozero, Pegrema and Vegorursy, from which you drive to Guest house in Bolnichny village.


We stop on route to marvel at the Church of Peter and Paul on Lychny Isle. These great works of folk wooden architecture are more than three hundred years old! In Vegoruska we will visit the village of YuzhniDvor– one of the oldest settlement at the Onega Lake. Richly decorated Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworkerhere was used as the lighthouse for many trade ships. The tasty dinner awaits you after the long day.

Day 3 The Isle of Kizhi

This is the last part of our safari, yet another 90-km snowmobile trek from Bolnychny villageto the isle of Kizhi and then crossing the Onega Lake back to Petrozavodsk. We will make a walking tour at the Kizchi. The architectural ensemble on the Isle of Kizhi is on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites and is one of Russia's oldest open-air museums. Also, you have free time for strolling and making great picture at the group of Shardon Islands of the Onega Lake. Enjoy the view on picturesque Kizhiskerriesand old settlements alongside. In Petrozavodskour evening sauna will open its doors for you.After dinner you will catch an evening train to go home.

"Shishki" Guest House was put into operation in 2011 and consists of 10 comfortable rooms with all amenities. Each room has a separate entrance from the street, its porch, a vestibule for outerwear and street shoes, an entrance hall, a bathroom with a warm floor, a spacious living room, a mini kitchen and a loft bedroom. The living room is equipped with an LCD TV, a DVD player, a coffee table and a sofa. From the window of the living room there is a panoramic view of Lake Sundozero.


The Guest House "Zaonezhie", located in the picturesque area of Velika Guba, has a sauna, free WiFi and free parking. Among the facilities of the rooms are a balcony, a washing machine and a sofa. Guests have access to a private or shared bathroom.There is a shared kitchen and a shared lounge.

Who will be my guide? +

An experienced guide will accompany you and ensure your safety. Our coaches will train each participant how to drive a snowmobile before you set out to the first part of the tour. Minors and people under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not allowed to operate a snowmobile.

Meals +

You will enjoy your breakfast and dinner at the hotel complex. The farewell dinner will take place in a café in Petrozavodsk. During our short break en route, we will have some snacks: sandwiches, sweets and hot tea from a thermos.

Equipment available +

You will be provided a Yamaha VK-540 III snowmobile
