Tour: A week in Kamchatka

- Exploration of natural treasures of Kamchatka in only  8 days -

 

This itinerary is specially designed for those who do not have much time for travels around the world but would like to explore Kamchatka’s unique nature. Only in a week you will visit all the main highlights of the rich Kamchatka Peninsula – fly to the fabulous Valley of Geysers, trek the active Mutnovsky volcano, raft down a Kamchatka’s picturesque river, and have a voyage of one of the most wonderful bays in the world – Avachinsky.

Length: 450 km by car, 30 km rafting, 25 km trekking

Group size: 6-20 persons

Season: mid-July – mid-September

Special requirements: no physical requirements (hiking with light day packs), but own sports outfit and equipment (backpack, sleeping bag, insulation mat) required


Day 1

 Arrival in Kamchatka by flight from Moscow. Meeting in the Yelizovo airport. Transfer to Paratunka famous for its thermal springs. Accommodation in the recreation center in twin rooms. Time at leisure after a long flight. Dinner at your own expense. Overnight

Day 2

 Breakfast. Free time to explore Kamchatka on your own or optional helicopter tour of the stunning Geyser Valley hidden in one of the deepest canyons of the Kronotsky nature reserve (extra cost, to be paid on the spot). The tour includes a transfer to Izluchina heliport in Yelizovo, 1 h 15 min flight to the Geyser Valley over the volcanoes Zhupanovsky, Karymsky and Maliy Semyachik with an acid lake in the crater; a 2-hours walking tour of the Geyser Valley to see geysers and fountains, mud chambers, sulphur lakes and other amazing phenomena. Lunch as a picnic. Return to Izluchina heliport above the breath-taking landscape of active volcanoes, mountain ridges, taiga, rivers and lakes, transfer to Paratunka. Lunch and dinner at your own expense. Overnight in the hotel

Note: Weather not permitting, the tour of the Geyser Valley will be delayed till the next day.

Day 3

 Breakfast. Transfer to the starting point for our rafting adventure - Mil’kovo village (150 km, 2.5 hrs). Assembling rafts, getting equipped, safety briefing. Lunch. Rafting (12 km, 2.5–3 hrs) down the Bystraya river, Kamchatka’s 2nd longest river flowing in picturesque places among pristine Kamchatka forests full of berries and mushrooms.  If you are lucky enough, you might see a brown bear. Passionate fishermen can also test their luck in angling (own tackle required). Set up a tent camp, dinner, overnight in tents.

Day 4

 Breakfast. The last part of the rafting trip along the picturesque shore with forest and mountain slopes to Malki village (3 h, 15 km). Lunch. Visit to Malkinskie thermal springs. Departure for Paratunka by car (125 km, 2.5 hrs). Check-in at a hotel and dip in a thermal pool, overnight in comfort.

Day 5

 Transfer to the foothill of the Mutnovsky volcano, crossing the steep Vilyuchinsky pass and mountain plateau, with a stop on the way near the Spokoyniy (Quiet) creek. Walk down (without luggage) from the car to have a look of the scenic Vilyuchinsky waterfall and relax bathing in the springs, two natural shallow pools of thermal water (3 km, 30 min). Return to the car for lunch

Transfer to the foothill of the Mutnovsky volcano (30 km by car, 2 hrs) and set a tent camp in the mountain tundra at a height of 1000 m. Walks in the surrounding area to enjoy the view of the volcano. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 6

 Early breakfast and a full day trip to explore the Mutnovsky volcano (2323 m), one of the most active volcanoes of Kamchatka, often reminding of itself by steam clouds and mud boiling in the outlets. Start spectacular trekking at 8 am to the foothill of the volcano (12 km, 3 hrs, gradient 800 m). Visit a fumarole’s glade, impressive volcanic glacier and an active crater, wonder over bright multicolored outcrops of plutonic rock. Packed lunch on the way. Return to the tent camp at 7 pm for dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 7

 Breakfast. Journey to Paratunka by car (80 km, 2.5 h). Bathing in a thermal pool. Lunch. Return to Petropavlosk, check-in at a hotel. Transfer to the sea port for a motor-boat voyage of the Avachinsky bay, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The boat will take you past the Nikol’sky volcano, Tikhaya (Quiet) bay, Babushkin kamen’ island, Stanitsky cape and legendary rock The Three Brothers. You will have an excellent panorama of the Avachinsky volcano ridge, Petropavlovsk city, and coastal landscapes and bays. Return to the port by 6 pm. A city tour of Petropavlovsk, overnight in the hotel.

Day 8

 Breakfast, check-out, transfer to the airport
