Tour: New Year in Kamchatka

New Year’s midnight: you are in a natural thermal pool, the snow-covered Kamchatkan volcanoes are around, the bright stars are shining from the endless dark-blue sky above you… Have the most special New Year!

Try out dog sledding in the incredible landscape of Kamchatka, walk along the shore of the Pacific Ocean, have a trip to the Vilyuchinsky and Avachinski volcanoes, ski at the famous Frosty Hill, relax in Paratunskie and Zelenovskie Ozerki springs… Kamchatka in wintertime is stunning... Happy New Year!
 

Day 1

Arrive in Petropalovsk-Kamchatski in the afternoon. Meeting at the airport by the local activity instructor (basic English), transfer to the city (25 km). Check-in at the hotel. Rest to accommodate the jet lag.
In the evening, have a trip to Paratunka located next to the city to relax in the swimming pool of Kamchatkan thermal water.

Day 2, 3 – 31 Dec & 01 Jan     
After breakfast, try downhill skiing at one of the ski stations in Petropavlovsk. (e.g., Krasnaya Gorka) In the afternoon, leave for Malki, where the hot thermal springs and cold river waters mix naturally to fill with warm water puddles and mini-pools.
Transfer to Malki (120 km, good dirt track, 3-4 hrs, with a stop on the way).
Celebrate this New Year in the most extra-ordinary way. Just fancy: clink your champagne glasses and wish Happy New Year to each other while lying in the hot thermal puddle, under the velvety deep blue sky with myriads of stars above you, looking at the surrounding majestic snow-covered mountains…
Leave for Paratunka resort area located next to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski in the afternoon of 01 January. Check-in at the lodge, rest. Night in Paratunka (DBL).
 
Day 4
Today a full-day (6-7 hrs) trip to the foothills of the magnificent Avachinski volcano awaits us.
After breakfast, transfer out of city. You will be taken by snowmobiles (behind the instructor or in the sleds) to the foothills of the volcano, which is considered one of the most scenic and active volcanoes of Kamchatka. Return to the hotel in early evening
Night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (DBL).
 
Day 5
After breakfast in the hotel, leave by car to the Moroznaya (Frosty) skiing center, the best in Kamchatka.
At your choice and expense, enjoy excellent downhill skiing / snowboarding / Nordic flatland skiing in the mountains in the vicinity of Petropalovsk-Kamchatski.
In the afternoon, have a trip to Zelenovskie Ozerki to check the quality of the local medicinal springs and have a dip in the hydro-sulphuric thermal waters.
Night in the hotel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (double-basis) or in Paratunka resort area (upon your request).
 
Day 6  
After breakfast, leave for Kamchatkan dog breeding center.
Get introduced to dog maintenance and training by the local staff, listen interesting stories about the dogs. Try to do dog sledding, going in turn in the dog sleds (1 person/sled while the others are on the snowmobile and in the snowmobile sleds, 1.5 hrs in total).
Optional: If you feel that dog sledding is your type of winter activity, you can stay longer to learn dog mushing from a professional musher (extra charge on the spot).
In the afternoon, the state of the winter roads permitting, we will depart by 4x4 for the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy a walk along the shore of the magnificent Pacific.

Day 7  
After breakfast, have a sightseeing tour of the city. Visit the local lore museum famous for its interesting and impressive ethnographic exhibition.
Optionally (for an extra fee, booking in advance required), you can visit the institute of volcanology to find out a lot of amazing facts about Kamchatkan volcanoes.
In the afternoon, go to the sea quay Mokhovoy to watch the eared seals who favour this site November through May already for a number of years.

Day 8  
Today is a full-day trip to Vilyuchinsky volcano awaits us. We are setting out of the city by snowmobile (behind the instructor or in the sleds). We will walk through the deep snow to the impressive waterfall, which in winter turns into a stunning gigantic icicle with running water. On the way back, we will relax in the natural baths of the hot Verkhneparatunskie thermal springs.

Day 9  
After breakfast, visit downtown to buy delicious sea fruit and souvenirs for those who are waiting for you back home. Check-out. Transfer to the airport and departure.
 
You can extend this programme with a 4-days trip to the national settlement Esso or a 2-days trip by snowmobiles and sleds with a partial ascent to Avachinsky volcano (booking in advance, extra charge)
