You will visit one of the most active and impressive volcanoes of Kamchatka – Mutnovsky, famous for diverse displays of volcanic activity; Gorely volcano, which has 11 craters of various forms and size; the scenic bay of Zhirovaya on the coast of the Pacific Ocean; and the Mutnovskaja geothermal power station, which is the largest on Kamchatka; a site of the Dachny hot springs. You may watch wild nature of Kamchatka: brown bears, motion of salmon on the rivers, birds.
The tour is designed for travellers with average fitness level, able to backpack 6 hours a day (backpack weight 10-15kg)
Day 1
Arrival at the airport. Transfer to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (20km), accommodation at a hotel, rest.
Day 2
Driving to Mutnovsky volcano. Setting out the camp. Excursion walk to the waterfall (90m), in the canyon “Dangerous”. Spending the night in tents.
Day 3Ascending into the crater of Mutnovsky volcano (2323m). Seeing active fumaroles, mud siphons, mountain lake. The crater of Mutnovsky volcano is one of the most striking volcanic phenomena of Kamchatka. Steep walls surround deep and wide cavity of the crater, with glittering glaciers, broken up cracks and outputs of boiling fumaroles. The ascending lasts 8 hours. If it’s a little bit difficult for anybody to ascend, it’s possible to return to the camp. Spending the night in tents
Day 4Excursion to Gorely volcano (1829m).
Walk along the coulee (hardened lava-stream), slag fields, seeing of 8 craters with lakes in it. The excursion takes 8 hours. If it’s a little bit difficult for anybody to ascend, it’s possible to return to the camp. Spending the night in tents
Day 5
A trek to the Dachny hot springs (15kms). A route takes place on the caldera of Gorely volcano through the pass Pioneer (1100m). Ascent to the pass lasts about 1 hour. To the left it is possible to see a rock which is called The Devil’s Finger, made of obsidian (volcanic glass). If you come closer to the rock you can collect interesting samples of obsidian (volcanic glass).
Then the descent to the hot springs passes through snowfield, a stream flows out of it. The Dachny hot springs are very close to Mutnovsky geothermal power station, seeing the site of the geothermal power station and the thermal site of the active boiler of the Dachny hot sources. The thermal site represents a small circus, walls and a bottom of which are piled (stacked) by depositions of thermal springs. It is possible to see pulsing springs, steam jets, mud pots and a set of small-sized hot outputs of thermal water. Spending the night in tents. Day 6
A trek to the Voinovsky hot springs (12kms). The route passes on the road leading downwards to the Zhirovaya river, to the slopes of the ancient volcano of Zhirovskoy and descends to the Mutnaya river, where the Voinovsky hot springs are located. Spending the night in tents.
Day 7Trek to the coast of the Pacific Ocean, to the bay of Zhirovaya (12kms). The bay of Zhirovaya is located among the vertical steep rocks covered with forest at the summit. Extent of sand beach is 3 km. Some waterfalls flow down to the bay. There is trade fishing in the estuary of the Zhirovaya river, where tourists will have an excursion. In the evening fresh fish soup will be prepared. Spending the night in tents.
Day 8
Day of rest. An excursion to the waterfalls, about 5kms. Bathing in a bay (if you wish). Spending the night at tents.
Day 9
Trek to the Zhirovsky hot springs (15kms). Rest, bathing. The hot springs are located in a picturesque place of the Zhirovaya river and represent two boiling gryphones, and a set of thermal outputs with natural basins. Spending the night in tents.Days 10-11
Trek through the Tenueva pass (520m) to the valley of the Vilucha river. From the pass the magnificent view for the valley of the Zhirovaya river, for Zhirovaya bay, for neighboring tops, Viluchinsky volcano is opened. Outlet to the Viluchinsky hot springs (12km). Spending the night in tents.
Day 12
Rest at the Viluchinskyn hot springs. The springs are located on the junction of the Spokoiny strand and the Vilucha river, on the right side of the river. Here is a fine basin for bathing, therapeutic baths. Springs are equipped with local mountain-skiing club. Bathing in the springs. Excursion to the abandoned gold mine. Spending the night in tents.Day 13
Trek to the Viluchinsky pass (6kms). While trekking, you’ll see the waterfalls on the Spokoiny strand, an altitude of which is about 40m. Departure to base by “off-road” car. Accommodation, rest.
Day 14
City guided tour. Visit of fish market. Purchasing of souvenirs. Transfer to the airport.
