The Lovozersky Tundras mountains make a high horseshoe-shaped plateau with its ends facing Lake Lovozero and its back facing Lake Umbozero. In this mountain land, in a stone bowl with steep walls there is Lake Seidozero.
In Sami the word “tundra” used to denote stony heights towering above the forest. Lower heights covered with forests are called sopkas (hills). In the east and in the north of the peninsula there is classic tundra that is low, even and swampy with bushes of arbuscles and berries (cowberries, black crowberries and cloudberries). That’s why there is a confusion of two terms – tundra and mountain tundra.
